ONE FOR TREES – Thunderbird Resorts’ Run for a Cause

At the crack of dawn last November 26, hundreds of running enthusiasts gathered at Thunderbird Resorts - Rizal to join the ONE FOR TREES: Thunderbird Resorts’ Run for a Cause. The run was the culminating activity of the second anniversary of the company’s corporate social responsibility program called TREES, or Thunderbird Resorts Efforts on Environment Sustainability.

The primary beneficiary of the ONE FOR TREES Run is the Serany Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization that aims to uplift the plight of the impoverished residents of Binangonan, Rizal. Prior to the run, a series of community-related initiatives were conducted in the neighboring areas of Thunderbird Resorts in Rizal and La Union such as adopt-a-school and feeding programs, tree-planting activities, and medical missions.

Participants of ONE FOR TREES ran along the foothills of the Sierra Madre mountain range. While the uphill and downhill roads proved to be more difficult than most city races, the runners gladly welcomed the challenge and completed the 5K, 10K and 21K distances. Binangonan Mayor Cecilio “Boyet” Ynares, together with municipal office employees, gamely joined the 5k category. Employee volunteers from Thunderbird Resorts acted as marshals and cheered the racers along the way.

Richard Salano and Janette Lumidao were the first to cross the finish line among the 5k racers. In the 10k race, the gold medals went to Gerald Sabal and Cindy Lorenzo. First placers of the 21k category were Elmer Sabal and Luisa Raterta.

Entitled “ONE for T.R.E.E.S.”, the run will be held at the vicinity of Thunderbird Resorts-Rizal in Eastridge Ave., Binangonan, Rizal.

“One For T.R.E.E.S.” is the culminating activity of the month-long commemoration of the CSR program’s anniversary, following a series of community-related initiatives such as its adopt-a-school and feeding programs, tree-planting activities and medical missions. In keeping with T.R.E.E.S.’ thrust to give back to the neighboring communities of Thunderbird Resorts-Rizal and Thunderbird Resorts-Poro Point, proceeds from the run will benefit the Serany Foundation of Rizal.

Thunderbird Resorts’ fun run provides a departure from the regular race settings within Metro Manila – with the route’s scenic landscapes and refreshing views, it is not the typical run venue that most runners participate in.

Categories are 5k, 10k and 21k. Registration fees are P500 for the 5k and 10k categories and P700 for the 21k category. Racekits include singlet, time chip and race bib, and will be provided to the first 1,000 registrants.

Cash prizes await the first, second and third place male and female winners in each category. Thunderbird Resorts, the global leisure property developer behind the famed resorts in Poro Point, La Union and Binangonan, Rizal, worked with seven of the country’s most esteemed and in-demand wedding suppliers and showcased them in the book entitled Thunderbird Resorts presents: The Power 7 Wedding Suppliers.

The players and guests of Fiesta Casino Poro Point experienced sultry moves from the dazzling EB Babes show last September 17. 2011. The all female dance group from the popular noontime show Eat Bulaga turned the Cabana Bar stage into a big dance floor.

Special guest that night was model and actress Sam Pinto, popular for her stint at the Big Brother Pinoy Edition. As soon as she stepped on stage, everyone was instantly charmed with her simple yet stunning personality.

Mooncake Festival at Fiesta Casino Rizal

It is the time of year wherein the Chinese celebrates its joyous Mid-Autumn Festival or more popularly known as the Mooncake Festival which happens every 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar when the moon is brightest.

Thunderbird Resorts - Rizal joined the festivities as they gave guests of Fiesta Casino a taste of the Chinese tradition last September 10.

Lanterns adorned the casino while employees dressed in colorful Chinese costumes welcomed guests and gave out scrumptious mooncakes.

For the night's entertainment, it was move and groove with the Regatta Band.

The casino players and guests participated as well ames such as a mooncake-eating contest, pick-up sticks and Chinoy Henyo. Winners received brand new cell phones!

Topping the night off was a special raffle draw where one lucky winner went home with P100,000 in cash!

Express Your Art 1st Round Finalists Announced!

Last July 22, Thunderbird Resorts announced the 1st round finalists of its Express Your Art Photo Contest III: “Experience Fiesta”.

Now on its third year, the contest boasts of the largest cash prize ever to be given by a local photo contest in the Philippines—PhP 250,000 for the grand prize. Finalists will also receive P5,000 consolation prize. Prizes will be awarded on January 28, 2012 at the Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation (FPPF) Photographer’s Night at the Asian Institute of Management.

It was everything Spanish last Saturday, August 6 at Fiesta Casino Rizal. The flags of Spain and the Philippines adorned the casino; employees were dressed in colorful Hispanic costumes; Flamenco dancers graced the stage while a Spanish guitar was being played on the background.

As part of its commitment of working with a conscience towards promoting environmental awareness, Thunderbird Resorts supports another endeavor benefitting Mother Earth.

In celebration of the “Year of the Forests” this 2011, two of the most awaited pre-pageant events of the Miss Philippines Earth are set to take center stage in Thunderbird Resorts-Binangonan Rizal’s newest Event Center.

Organized together with the Miss Earth Foundation and Carousel Productions, both the Talent Competition and Cultural Competition will be held on May 21, 2011 at 3:00pm and 6:00pm respectively. Adding twist to this year’s pageant, the Top Ten Finalists will be announced on the same day.

Miss Philippines Earth promotes beauty for cause, in the same way that Thunderbird Resorts strongly upholds the importance of the environment. The Soul Diva JAYA and comedy legend Elizabeth Ramsey gave Fiesta Casino Poro Point an unforgettable Night of Laughter and Soul last May 14.

The mother-and-daughter tandem brought to the Cabana Bar stage their well-known comedy acts coupled with their undeniable singing prowess.

Jaya, who is considered as the country's Queen of Soul, performed songs from her albums as well as renditions of current tunes. Her personal hits include "Dahil Tanging Ikaw", "Laging Naroon Ka", and "Dahil ba sa Kanya".

Elizabeth Ramsey, on the other hand, is truly a delight to the audience. Still not losing the charm and wit that makes her connect with the crowd.

Truly an experience of timeless romance last April 15, 2011, the crowd at Thunderbird Resorts Rizal's Event Center was brought down memory lane as balladeer Jose Mari Chan serenaded them with his classics and hits.

Jose Mari Chan sang his most loved songs such as “Tell me your Name”, "Please be Careful with My Heart", “Beautiful Girl” and many more.

Bringing along his charms and wit, the singer and songwriter shared not only his the hit songs but as well as jokes and funny stories in between sets.

The audience laughed at and loved his humorous spiels. Such a revelation that aside from being a crooner, Jose Mari Chan is a comic himself.

Then, making it more an intimate concert, Jose Mari Chan went down the stage to be up close with his fans.

And to cap the night, Jose Mari Chan graced an autograph signing session. Fans & guests alike lined up for the chance to have their CDs signed and for photo-op too!

Held last April 16, 2011, Thunderbird Resorts hosted this year’s Bloggers Fest – an activity-filled day that includes talks and workshops with about 200 blogger attendees from various categories. Azrael Coladilla explains on manilabloggers.blogspot.com, “The objective of the event is to have a venue for free mentorship on blogging and as well as networking with Filipino bloggers and participating companies.”

The Extraordinary Grand Prize winning video featured a guy going about his daily routine with such enthusiasm only to reveal in the end that he’s on a wheelchair. The video closes with the text “You Make Yourself Extraordinary.” On the day of the awarding, the Grand Prize winner Randolph Longjas received his award with both legs able and walking, a big surprise to all those present.

“The video was inspired by my family’s adopted brother who can’t walk,” Longjas explained. “Despite the disability, he brings joy to our family and since he came, he brought so many blessings to us, like winning in this video contest.”
